How to Enter Job Costing for Projects in Terial
What is Production Job Costing in Terial?
Terial's Production Job Costing (PJC) connects your:
Budgeted cost
Committed costs (POs)
Actual costs (deliveries)
So you always know where a job stands financially.
How It Works (At a Glance)
Budget → Materials → PO → Delivery → Cost Roll-Up
Terial automatically updates budget vs committed vs actual as the job progresses.
Different Ways to Start (Choose What Fits Your Team)
1) Detailed Budgets (Full Job Costing)
For teams already tracking costs by parent/child codes.
How to start
Upload a full budget
Upload materials
Create POs in Terial
Capture delivery photos
Why it's useful
Full visibility into budget vs actual
Cleaner handoff between office + field
2) Simple Budgets (Quick Start)
For teams who want job-costing but aren't ready for detailed codes.
How to start
Enter a simple 1–3 line budget (Labor / Materials / Other)
Create POs + log deliveries
Why it's useful
Very low lift
Still gives meaningful cost visibility
3) No Budget Yet (PO + Delivery Only)
For teams just getting started.
How to start
Skip the budget
Create POs in Terial
Upload delivery slips
Why it's useful
Immediate structure and traceability
Eliminates lost receipts/texts
Natural path into budgeting later
Note: By going this path, you can track POs and Deliveries for projects, but not traced back to a specific project.
If you’re interested in tracking back to a specific project, you’ll need to create at least 1 parent cost code (e.g., Production), 1 corresponding child cost code (e.g., Production Materials), enter those as your super-simplified budget, and enter your project Materials against that Production Materials cost code.
